The industrial proximity sensor can be different shapes and sizes, from the compact sensor that detects individual parts to larger sensors used to detect objects at a distance. They can also be different types, from inductive sensor for metal parts to capacitive sensor for non-metallic objects.

Since the proximity sensors are contactless, they can be operated for millions of times.
